Production Blog 2 - Sunshine RV

Hello everyone! Welcome back to our second production blog of Sunshine RV. My name is Bryce and I am excited to show you the progress our team has accomplished through sprint 2. First, let’s get started with a little refresher. Sunshine RV is a first-person simulator where players manage specific and time-sensitive orders from customers by buying wares and harvesting ingredients to brew various sunshine concoctions.

Our goal for this sprint was to create a functional prototype where players could see the basic functions of the game. In our case, it is the basic camera movement to various locations and the mechanic of making Sunshine. We were able to accomplish these goals and through our prototype, we were able to get feedback on what we need to improve. Although we do have a long way to go, our team has accomplished a lot, so let’s get into it.

Programming

We will start with programming because our game is very program-dependent. Our programmers worked diligently this sprint focusing on making the camera system correspond to how the player will see things in the RV. With that, we started getting our order system underway. We had one of our programmers work solely on having the player pick what glass to make the order, as well as the flavor and color. Along with that, we had our other programmer focus on adding items to the inventory such as the glassware, flavors, and colors.

Modeling

Our modelers this sprint did an outstanding job modeling props and major assets that the player will be interacting with. One of our modelers modeled the computer that the player will be interacting with to purchase trees and glassware. Other props such as hats that the customers and NPCs will be wearing were modeled. The hats are a major aspect of the game because we want all customers and NPCs to be wearing them. Along with that hat, we had the interior of the RV being modeled such as the refrigerator and cabinets. Last but not least, one of our modelers had worked so hard modeling the RV itself and I am proud to say it looks great.

2D Art

This sprint, 2D art was a major accomplishment because our game is based on order management. We have our 2D artists focusing on making images that deal with the final drinks that will be ordered. We have a total of 64 drinks and in this sprint, our 2D artists were able to get through more than half. Along with that, our programmers will be using these images in the inventory. Once the player is finished making a drink, the image will then be placed in the inventory so the player will see what they made and they will be able to hand the customer their order. Along with the images, we had our other 2D artist who is also our animator make images for the websites. We have two websites the player will be able to click on. The first one is the glassware website where the player will purchase glassware and the second is the garden website where the player will purchase the trees.

Sound  Design

Our sound designer worked very hard on sounds this sprint. We have various sounds throughout the game and one that stood out was the car sound that will be played when cars are driving by. Our sound designer is working on nice sounds and music, but you will have to wait and see what he has in store for the next sprint.

Conclusion

With that said, our second sprint has wrapped up. Our team has completed a total of 142 points out of 180 points assigned. For our next sprint, our goal is to have the order system done with. What I mean, is to have the drink-making feature done, along with customers ordering drinks and being able to purchase glassware and trees. We will have the build completed and we will have a playtest, in hopes of getting more feedback from players. As we continue production, our team will be working hard to get more 3D art and 2D art made, along with other features. We are excited to say we are moving along perfectly, but we are not done yet. Looking forward to future posts about the production and design aspects of our game. We hope you enjoy it! Thank you!
