Production Blog #4

Programming

The programmers refined the upgrades screen and money system, so now the player can fluidly earn money making deliveries and then purchase upgrades without any issues. Animations have been implemented for Sheldon as well, including the walking, running, and package pickup. An updated prototype of the game was created as well using the level designer’s work that features all of the props modeled so far. A fun pause screen was designed as well that is stylized to the game's theme of replacing "S" with "Z". Progress is also being made on the ragdolls for the game, as the goal is to be able to hit NPCs and send them flying.

Models

A gas station and car wash has been modeled in order to break apart the residential areas. The modelers had some fun with these, creating interesting architecture and signs. On top of this, a robotic dog has been modeled that will be chasing Sheldon in various places around the map. The face is a flat TV screen, and will cycle through different 2D designs as facial expressions. A damaged version of the packages has been modeled as well so there is visual feedback when Sheldon throws a package. A speed limit sign was also created to add more immersion to the town. It’s written in an alien language, but still visually recognizable as a speed limit.

Animations

Sheldon now has an animation made for when he throws a package, and multiple different walk cycles were made for the alien child NPC, bringing one of the many NPCs to life.

Level Design

The level designers created neighborhoods based on the annotated maps, using all of the props modeled so far. This includes houses, streets, trees, bushes, mailboxes, signs, street lights and more. With this, we are much closer to the intended gameplay for the final product. As time goes on and more models are made, the level designers will go back to past neighborhoods and add in the other props in order to fill in the town even more.

Audio

There are a lot of fun sounds planned for Same Day Delivery, one of them being the voice lines for Dan. Here is a sample of the audio to include some audio work in this production blog.

Statistics

Overall for this sprint, 190 points were assigned and 143 were completed by the end of the two week period. This leaves our average velocity at 140 points per sprint. At this point in the project, we can see things really start to come together. I'm excited to see how much progress the team makes in the next sprint! Thanks for viewing our page, check back soon for updates!
