Producer Blog #4

Hello, and welcome to the fourth producer blog of Robot Riot! My name is Miciah Coley and I am excited to share all of the hard work my team has put in throughout the sprint. Robot Riot has 14 members and our design of the game came from our game designer, Marisa Moreno. If you want to learn more about what went into our design process you are welcome to take a look here.

Robot Riot is a competitive battle royale game in which you will face off against another player, collecting various weapons and powers ups to fight them in battle and win. The game takes place in the main facility of Atonal Industries, a robot manufacturer that also specializes in quirky weaponry props. Players will square off against each other in a best of three lives on four different levels to determine who is the best robot.

With our vision out of the way. Let’s talk about the work that was completed during the sprint.

Modeling

Our fourth level is called The West. From the title you called it’s a western style level with a saloon, trading posts, and some more fun props. We wanted this level to be full of fun props some of which would be destructible for the player. So the goal of this sprint was to crank out all of the models then to build it in the next sprint. Here’s a look at the work that was completed during the sprint.

Programming

This sprint I had my programmers focus on finishing our inventory, finishing our second mode for the robots, and finishing coding our powerups and weapons. Here’s a look at that work:

Level Designers

Our level designers this sprint were tasked with making the foreground so we build The West next sprint and I had my other level designing going back to polish levels with lighting. Alex started off with the usually annotated map, blockout, environment and prop models built. Carl went straight into remodeling some of the levels, then went straight into lighting.  Here’s the work that they completed this sprint.

2D Art

This sprint we wanted to get some more UI made for our game. So I asked our 2D artists to draw up a level select screen, some sprites for L3 and Flea, a main Menu screen, and finally some controller UI.

Animation

This sprint we had some models that needed to get rigged, some animations to get done, and VFX that needed to be done. We had two people on animation this sprint so things went by really fast.

Sound Design

This sprint we had two sound designers so I wanted to make sure that I got the rest of our weapons and hazards sounds square away. Here is the work completed from that sprint.

Conclusion

In our second sprint we completed a total of 135 points out of 162. In the next sprint we want to build out the West, add more lighting into the game, Rem and Tanker into the game, and update our UI and mechanics programming wise.
